Two solid pages.
It’s a beginning that I can accept. It works as a prologue, introducing some of the background that makes this piece speculative fiction, but it lets me establish the voice of one of the main characters. Even though I don’t intentionally provide that character’s name.
It’s not as immediate as the beginning of Stinger by Robert R. McCammon. More like a cross between the opening to Boy’s Life. And you can gather from those two references that I’m on a McCammon kick at the moment, and plan to pick up The Five this week if possible.
