I’m thinking about posting some “fan fiction” on my Word Press site.
The story is one I wrote for the Midian Unmade anthology. The story made the final round, but was rejected by the editors because it didn’t fit the tone they were looking for.
I’m not going to be able to do anything else with the story, but I’m proud of it. The story owes its genesis to a couple different thing besides Clive Barker and Cabal, and actually illustrates how reading is an essential part of writing. I found an article recently that collected writing advice from several authors. Stephen King’s two cents was that “If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time — or the tools — to write. Simple as that.”
Who’s interested in reading some fan fiction? If I post the story, I’ll even add some liner notes at the end to illustrate how the story came about, since people sometimes like knowing where writers get their ideas. Which is the whole point about influences and reading to write in the first place.
