History —

— “and the Need to Repeat It” would be an apt description for the mood of my muse.

I was going through a proof of my short story, “The Hanged Man of Oz,” looking for any corrections it might need before production starts on Ellen Datlow’s reprint anthology, The Cutting Room, out this October from Tachyon Publications. What do you think I found?

Answer: lots of cool stuff.

Scenes I’d forgotten, descriptions that jumped off the page.  A few raw things, too, that I would wish a chance to change so the prose read smoother. But all in all some good writing — which I’d forgotten I was capable of doing.

So, I’ve been productive today when I had free time, and wrote/edited about 3,000 words on the #wip. And I’m hopeful that I can actually make a go of this thing I’m attempting. It’s not easy telling stories for a living, but when you’re in a groove it’s such a great feeling. How could I forget how to do this?
